Nevarest’s OCR athletes show up in a big way

This weekend saw the first Warrior Race of the year take place at the Riversands farm in Johannesburg.

After an enjoyable evening at team owner and manager’s house, Alec Avierinos, the team felt well fed and more importantly, well rested. With team bonding done, Saturday saw the athletes compete in the highly competitive solo sprint challenge that Warrior has to offer. With the team’s fearless captain, Greg Avierinos, not being able to race due to illness the onus fell on our leading lady, Michelle Meyer to carry the Nevarest Warrior Sprint mantle. Little did we expect, our latest additions, Megan and Dylan van Tonder, ‘The Wonder Twins’  both ended up grabbing some impressive and hard-fought podiums in their respective age group categories. With Dylan picking up a 1st and Megan picking up the 1st place. Michelle pushed hard through some difficult competition and after some seriously close racing, she took home a well deserved 1st place.

In addition to the ‘Wonder Twins’ being added, we’ve also added the ever-exciting Carla van Huyssteen to our already elite lineup. To debut her return to The Warrior Race, and her debut appearance for Nevarest Team Carla racked up an awesome 2nd place finish, just behind Trish Eksteen in the Black Ops Elite batch. The very consistent Calen Hastie showed true grit, pushing hard and obtaining a 3rd place finish, along with a 3rd place age group finish in the Commando Elite. Alec, after doing all 3 difficulties on Saturday, still pushed himself to the limits on race day, and took first place in the 50+ category.

After nursing some injuries from last year, our very own speedster, Tumi Matlou took home the gold in the Rookie Elite. With Megan van Tonder taking 3rd place overall, as well as 2nd place in her age category. Dylan just missed out on making the podium for the overall race with a 4th place, but still came 1st in his age category.

At the end of the day, our athletes took home 13 podiums! We are immensely proud of these athletes and the always-incredible performances they deliver every weekend!
