Tumi Matlou – Aida 4-in1 Tuffy

A Weekend of back to Back Mileage:

With just 2 weeks to go before one of the toughest races on the SA trail calendar, it seemed perfect to add in a back to back distance training session to get the body ready for AFRICAN X!

The weekend started with a 25km Friday  morning run before work, which I may add don’t ever try!  Do it knowing you have time to recover afterwards J none the less the real adventure was yet to come.

Magoebaskloof was calling and it was the perfect destination to conquer trail, height and attitude. The Saturday morning was an unplanned race day. It was the annual Aida 4-in1 Tuffy in Tzaneen which is very well known for setting back any PB’s you may have.  My intensions were not to race but to run at a good pace to still feel fine for the next day. As a runner you never go to a race just to train, that doesn’t exist and so I raced. I walked away with a very good victory, running 5 minutes faster than last year.  The weekend ended with a Sunday 30km trail run and I can safely say that I’m still alive to tell the tale. With a few aches and pains but all worth it!
