Antonie Joubert – This was my first road race in years and this specific race was an Official Premier Seeding Event of the 2021 Cape Town Cycle Tour. I believe it went really well – my average speed for the first 80km was 47km/h and I held up with the leading bunch until I reached the 100km mark. After the 100km mark, my legs, unfortunately, started cramping and I lost the bunch. I did manage to recover, but with only 9km left, I didn’t have the time to catch up to the lead group. I finished 5min after the winner. As the common phrase goes, I was so close, yet so far!

I’m happy with my result and glad I entered the road race as it posed a challenge for me as I’m more of an avid mountain biker. Hopefully, I can give my road bike another shot soon!
