Race Report: Ruth Avierinos – Warrior #2

What an incredible race! From the venue to the course to the obstacles it was really such a great event!

I really enjoyed the lap format; it was a really nice way to challenge yourself to be better the second time round (once you know what to expect).  It also added to the amount of obstacles that we had where we usually only have 22 now we had 44, which is a great way to test your muscle endurance.

Leading up to the race I had been a bit ill and so I couldn’t train my running as much as I would of liked. However this gave me a bit more time to focus on my arm and grip strength, which seemed to pay off, as this was the first race that I have never had to repeat a single obstacle the whole race. That being said I still have a long way to go in terms of speed of completion of the more difficult ones. I managed to place 2nd overall and 1st in u22 in the Commando Elite, which was really humbling.

Congratulations to everyone who competed (whether you finished with or without your band!) I am really grateful to be able to do what I love and I would really like to say thank you to all of my sponsors Toyota South Africa, First Ascent South Africa, Key Health Medical Aid and to my team Nearest thanks for these wonderful opportunities. I really enjoy being apart of such a vibrant and adventurous team. Most importantly I want to say thank you to my heavenly father for giving me the ability to do what I love and the determination to try and become the best athlete that I can.

This coming weekend I am off to Lesotho to take part in a 2-day stage trail run which I am really looking forward to. Living up to the team name and never resting. So I challenge you try and do something that challenges, excites and inspires you to be the best version of yourself that God has called you to be! Never settle for anything else!  Don’t forget that you come from greatness! Till next time stay awesome…
