Race Report: Michael Joubert – Kinetic Sprint #1

This weekend was the first of the Kinetic Sprint Adventure Races for 2019. I raced with my girlfriend Klara as this was her first mini Adventure Race. We had a really great time on the trails of Cradle Moon Lodge.

I mainly did this race just to practice my navigation before our first Adventure Race in Swaziland for the coming weekend. Al my navigation was spot on except the second point on the run leg where the point was close to a few Rhino’s and the game ranger said we can’t go any closer. That through me of a bit but luckily, we didn’t waste to much time.

We did some cutting across the fields on the run leg but mostly ran on the nice single tracks. Quickly we ticked off all the checkpoints and 6km was done.

The seconded leg was on the bike. There was still a lot of people every where so the first few points went a bit slow but as soon everyone got a bit more space we started to go a bit faster. The cycle points were rather easy but maybe also due that I have ridden at Cradle Moon a few times.

Lastly, we went on a 2km paddle on the dam with 3 checkpoints to retrieve. These was definitely the easiest of the lot as you literally can’t get lost on a dam.

Klara and I enjoyed it a lot. Not racing this race competitively as this was just an introduction for Klara. I stilled sharpened my navigation skills and Klara her mountain biking skills.

Thanks to our sponsors for making it possible to do what we love, Keyhealth, First Ascent and Toyota
