Race Report: Emily Clarke – 3222 Stage Trail Run

The 3222 Challenge organized and hosted by Trail Adventure at the stunning Afriski Mountain Resort in Lesotho was a breath-taking initiation into a couple of new territories for me. The two-day stage race got my engine to defy science in my first race as a member of the Nevarest team and I got a new stamp my passport!

“An engine can burn no more gas than the amount of oxygen”- myth debunked! There was no oxygen. None the less my engine got my heart fibrillating at 198bpm at some stage on day 1 as I traversed hills, crawled up mountains and darted across wetlands like a confused goat for 25km. Day 2 was shorter at 15km but no less magnificent with a few additional river crossings and thankfully a little less crawling. No description can truly do this event or location justice, you simply have to be there in 2020 to experience the glorious paradox of racing at 3222m above sea level.

It was a privilege to round off the podium with two legendary and truly inspirational trail ladies Landie and Nicky. Thanks to the KeyHealth Nevarest team for the opportunity to race, learn and grow as an athlete. My excitement for the adventure of 2019 in uncontainable.
