Race Report: Dylan van Tonder – Warrior #6

This specific Warrior felt like it was my first as I was off for 5 months from OCR racing because I dislocated my shoulder. It didn’t help that I dislocated it again at the SA Championships in the first 100m of the u/18 individual sprint race. Although I did rehab on my shoulder for 3 weeks before the race, I still was not confident that I could make it through the race without pulling my shoulder out again so I chose to do the Rookie rather than the Commando to decrease the risk of it happening again. The race and venue itself was awesome, we were racing right next to the Mbombela stadium and it even got included into the race with a carry and a few winding stairs to the top and back down. The majority of the race didn’t go too far away from the venue and it was mostly flat so it was full throttle out of the starting area until the finish. I was quite surprised that I didn’t struggle at all with the obstacles which was a sign of relief as I finished 3rd overall with my whole body intact. The whole experience coming back into racing the Warrior was great even though I didn’t participate in the sprint races but Megan took the win home for us in the u/18 women’s individual sprint. I really enjoyed the venue right next to the stadium and the experience of them including the stadium for a few obstacles. I would really like to come to the same venue next year for the Toyota Warrior. Thanks to all my sponsors for making this come together, Toyota, KeyHealth, Inov-8, First Accent and the Nevarest Team for a great weekend racing together.
