Race Report: Calen Hastie – Warrior #8 [Soweto]

Nasrec show grounds brought a close to the warrior race series for 2018. It was an exciting event with Conrad, Calvin and me holding tied results for the series of 2018. This meant that this final warrior would be the deciding factor for the years results and for who would ultimately take first place for the series. The race course was 2 km shorter than usual and far flatter than expected. This made the race more of a sprint than anything else. I pulled into 1st position after the 3 km mark and managed to hold a lead for a while up until the final 500 meters where I had some trouble with wet hands at the ropes and had to first dry my hands before proceeding. Calvin, Conrad and I raced neck and neck at the ironrig; Conrad managed to make a lead on me on the rig and take 1st place. Shortly after, I completed the rig and proceeded to take 2nd place just short of 30 seconds after Conrad and 2nd for the overall warrior race standings for the year. Well done to Conrad and Calvin for your excellent sportsmanship. I am very proud of my achievement and thankful for the support I have received from my friends, teammates and family throughout the year.

I would also like to thank this year’s sponsors for their support behind me every step of the way. I look forward to pushing further and reaching higher next year.
