Race Report: Calen Hastie – Warrior #4

Warrior Race Nationals brought us back to the scenic Shoreline of Blythedale. I felt well prepared for National. The race began with a twist; the route had been reversed compared to the previous years. The first 5 km was a long drag to the top of the coastal estate. I found myself in 9th position throughout the first section of the run but continued to dig deep in the pain cave. At about 6 km in I took a few positions squeezed into 7th position. The route eventually took us down a series of downhills (Probably the fastest I have ever run down technical and flat downhills in my career) until we landed on the beach. The wind had proven to be a mighty foe on the day, blowing directly in our faces as we ran across the beach. I had successfully passed Conrad just before the beach section and managed to catch up to Nelius. We raced neck and neck to the toss where I managed to make a small lead until Iron rig. Iron rig was a breeze (Thanks to my training). Racing through to Rookie rig, Conrad and myself performed it incorrectly. After restarting, Conrad broke a small lead all the way to the finish. I finished in a solid 3rd place in the SA category 20-29 and 2nd in the 22 and under category.

I am very proud of my results and more importantly, my performance on the day.

Big thanks to our sponsors who look after our race needs to well.
