Race Report: Calen Hastie – Warrior #2

This is a much anticipated event for me, especially because it is one of my favourite venue. Warrior Bloemfontein was held as a lap format race for the 2nd year running, and I was loving it.

The course boasted a 4.8km course that had to be completed twice. This means that every obstacle needed to be completed twice.

Initially, I did not go to hard out of the blocks but rather gave myself the opportunity to find myself in the first lap and then push in the 2nd lap. Sure enough, this race strategy prevailed as it had done the previous year. The reason for this is due to the high intensity of obstacles throughout the race that would need to be completed.

Throughout the first lap I kept a consistent pace in 5th position while getting to know the course and slowly started to pass other racers.

I pulled into 2nd position coming into the 2nd lap and managed to open a large lead between myself and 3rd position. I continued to push hard throughout the final lap and efficiently moved through each obstacle and finished with a 2nd position with a fairly large 3-4 min lead behind 3rd position.

Overall I am happy with the way I performed in comparison to the first race of the year. I certainly felt more fit and agile going through each obstacle. I am excited to maintain that same vigour for the next race.

Thank you to the amazing sponsors for their support whether it is entries or gear, it is all made possible by you.
