Race Report #23 for 2015

The Kinetic Adventure series was concluded this past Sunday at Hollybrooke farm. The race that Stephan and Heidi put together for us was a fitting final to a very exciting year of racing.

The new venue leveled the playing field for the racers that had become used to the old venues and this added to the excitement for what lay ahead.
The race started with some beautiful single track along the riverbanks and a short and sharp run round a neighboring farm with Blesbuck being chased left to right by adventurers running through their paddock.  This spread out the field and soon the whole countryside was filled with weekend warriors looking for checkpoints.

The mountain bike took us out to some district roads and the pace quickened considerably. The bushveld scenery seemed to shimmer with the heat of the day setting in as we made our way ticking off the checkpoints. At around the halfway mark of the leg there was one or two tricky points and turn-offs to find on the map and the leading field was reshuffled as teams passed and returned for checkpoints.Back at Hollybrooke we had a quick paddle up and down the farm dam and finished off the race with a small section of a very cool looking high ropes / canopy tours type obstacle course.
Thanks to Stephan and Heidi for doing so much for the sport of adventure racing in South Africa. The quality of your events keep people coming back for more, and your encouragement is slowly but surely growing the fields in the longer distance events. All the best for next year’s plans.
