The Holiday Season calls for “Playtime!”

It’s all about fun, games and training!

December is known as wind-down time. Some athletes pack away their overused running shoes and mountain bikes that have traveled many happy and muddy kilometers; others use the “extra” time to stress less and explore more, grabbing a family member or two to join in on the adventure.

Ian Peterkin and Jacques Buys ready to tackle 13 Peaks

Jacques Buys and Ian Peterkin started the month tackling the 13 Peaks with two of their trail buddies in a time of 22 hours and 53 minutes. Jacques recommends the challenge to any outdoor enthusiast and reports, “the views are worth it!”

Jacques, The speedster and modern-day Forest Gump never passes on a running challenge and came out on top when he set the course record for the Discovery George Ultra Trail FKT Challenge in 49:03.

The newest member of the team, Ian Peterkin partnered up with teammate Michael Joubert in the Kingdom of the Sky, where they self-navigated and trekked 105km from Mnweni Hiking Centre to Afriski Mountain Resort and back experiencing the beauty of Lesotho first hand.

Both of these athletes hiked the Fanie Botha Trail, situated in Sabie, Mpumalanga. It is located on the Drakensberg escarpment and provides hikers of all levels with spectacular scenery over a variety of landscapes, with the waterfalls being one of the main attractions.

Thereafter, Michael decided to put on his cleats and plan a cycling trip to Bronkhorstspruit with his brother, Antonie Joubert, where they had an action-packed day climbing in the region. If climbing alone was not tiring enough, they rode all the way back, traveling a good+-150km for the day. Go the Joubert’s!

Malcolm Dunkeld explored a different area of Bronkhorstspruit. He spent a couple of days training in the Telperion Nature Reserve – mountain biking, trail running and overall just enjoying and appreciating the outdoors.

As you can see, The Nevarest Team prefers to “play” all year round; always finding a day or two to put in some valuable yet fun training in preparation for an exciting year of Adventure Racing, Trail Running, Mountain Biking, Multi-Sport, and OCR.

2020 is looking bright!
