Jolly July Trail Run – 20km

The Jolly Jully was a great buildup and confidence booster for me before the coming weekend’s Warrior Race in Balito. The race started easily with a gradual climb for the first 2 km. Sello Ramaloko quickly took the lead and we worked hard for a few kilometers together. As Adriaan Cronje caught up with us, I passed Sello again and Adriaan and I were in a head to head race up to 11km – with both of us trying to make a gap where we can. I kept trying to open/close a gap on the technical descents and Adriaan tried to do the same on the fast flats. I felt really good from the start of the race and we kept a good pace on the trail.

At the 11km mark/ 2nd water point, I quickly got a sip of water and pushed really hard and broke away and managed to make a good gap. I kept that gap for the rest of the race and ran on my own, enjoying the trails and feeling good after the weeks of hard training on my running that started to pay off.

I finished first in 2:25:22 on a 20 km trail, with Adriaan Cronje second and Sello Ramaloko third. A big thanks to Debbie from Wildtrail for hosting a great event again and my sponsors for making it possible to compete in the races. #TeamNevarest
