Race Report: Malcolm Dunkeld – Kinetic Sprint Race #1

Team: Keyhealth Nevarest Origin
Sunday 18 March was the first of the four-race Kinetic sprint series races. This 25km Sprint race was held at Avianto in Muldersdrift. With my normal partner Jaco Lourens still recovering from injury I had to find a “Super Sub”, thank you Ross Kay-Hards for stepping in. With a massive field, it was sure to be a good race. A total of 38 checkpoints meant the navigation was crucial on with the network of stunning single track trails at Avianto. The race started at a blistering speed with the Nevarest Juniors setting out for the sprint. The first leg a short 1.5km run didn’t allow for much breathing or breathing space. The next leg was a 16km technical mountain biking leg. Our team managed to get an early lead on the competitors, specifically the juniors. Finding checkpoints was key and we managed to maintain the lead going into the final two legs. The last leg was a 6km run leg including 1km paddle, followed by an obstacle before the finish. Already with a healthy lead, we could play it safe and ultimately finished 9 min before our nearest competitors. Well done to the Juniors who finished second, looking forward to the competition in the next races.

Thank you once again to all the sponsors for your ongoing support.
