Team Keyehalth Nevarest Race Report

Probably the closest contested Full Moon 120km adventure race in team Nevarests history. The infamous team Jabberwock was always going to be strong at the start line but team Nevarest Keyhealth also had a mean line up and were ready to race. Team Red Ants and Addicted2Adventure further added to the field of quality racers which is probably why this 120km race was won in under 10 hours.

Falcon Creek made for a beautiful venue between the towns of Frankfort and Heilbron. The flat grasslands of the Freestate and the Vaal Dam made the racing terrain. After a cool morning by race start at 11:00 it was Freestate warm. The first leg was a 16Km run leg through game farms, over the Kliprivier and included taking tiger lines over dry ploughed cornfields (not easy running). Team Jabberwock managed to complete the run first but Nevarest was close behind. Onto the cycle, 20km in the direction of the Vaal Dam. Team Nevarest boosted by the highly experienced and competitive Yolande Speedy managed to real Jabberwock in and make a small 2min lead. Next was the paddle leg, 14km of flat water paddling has its level of challenge as concentration tends to lack and maintaining momentum is difficult. Team Neverest, however, held their lead going into the second run leg.

Unfortunately, the team stumbled during this leg. We were not able to keep up the running pace and allowed Jabberwock to make a 17min lead on us going into the final leg.

After a fast transition including plotting the final 58km MTB leg, the team was out to chase down Jabberwock as best they could.

Nonstop peddling on the flat roads, climbing many farm gates and dodging rabbits caught in the bike light was the events of this final leg. Unfortunately, we suffered two punctures and only managed to close within 6 min of the eventual winners Jabberwock as we finished in second place.

It was a wonderfully fast and competitive race, thank you to Kinetic Events Africa for a great race and as always to our sponsors for making this all possible.
