Race Report: Louis Smit – GI Joe 3 – Vi[er Clash

The third race of the GI Joe series this year was great fun even though there were some major issues with course markings and Marshalling. As always this event was all about the main event the Commander challenge plus there was a host of well-known faces from other OCR races including Brandon Hulley, Stefan Lotter and his C4 squad and many more.  As usual, the first obstacle was a water obstacle which didn’t make thing warmer as it was a rather cold start to the race, I felt great in the beginning and made an instant gap on the field, as the race continued so did my advantage on the field.

The awesome obstacles were at the end of the race and I was really looking forward to the zip line as well as the kayak obstacle, not many if any OCR events have this much variety in their obstacles.

I also was way more relaxed and just managing the pace comfortably. As I started my paddle I saw there was no more gap just to realize in the end that a bunch of the athletes missed a whole loop on the course.

It should have been a comfortable win but still loads of enjoyment to be had. It was great fun just a shame that the race had to end with actually no racing, I was happy to come away with the win though. Thanks to my sponsors Keyhealth Nevarest Team, Toyota and First Ascent for this great opportunity.
